2nd Snow Algae Meeting at Fraunhofer IZI-BB
The biannual international snow algae meeting will take place at Fraunhofer IZI-BB this year from 15th to 16th November. 26 scientists from Japan, the USA, Greta Britain, Austria, the Czech Republic and Germany are gathering to discuss various topics around cryophilic (= cold-loving) microalgae from polar and high alpine regions of our planet Earth. Topics like taxonomy, phylogeny and population genetics like-wise will be addressed as aspects of genomics and transcriptomics. Thus, numerous presentations will go wide from field research to biotechnological applications of these extremophilic organisms. Prof. emer. Dr. Ronald Hoham (Colgate University, NY, USA) will participate as a special guest. Dr. Hoham has set milestones in snow algae research in the 1970s and will report on »his history with snow algae«.
